Deaf Awareness Training
Deaf Awareness training aims to promote positive action by enabling participants to understand barriers which exist between themselves and deaf people and to learn how positive action will help reduce those barriers and reverse the discrimination which deaf people experience.
The training day will:
- Describe how discrimination limits opportunities for deaf people.
- List actions, which can help reduce discrimination.
- Describe how deafness and attitudes to deafness affect communication.
- Identify the main groups of deaf people and associated methods of communication.
- Demonstrate an ability to use basic communication tactics.
- Identify the differences between cultures based on sign language and spoken language.
- Describe the range, benefits and limitations of technical aids to communication.
This is a one day training course which will be held at various venues across South London. Upon completion of this one day training participants can go onto British Sign Language Level One.
